Really should you discover WordPress? This is a extremely widespread concern that numerous new self taught world-wide-web developers and programmers usually check with and in this movie I convey to you why you shouldn’t waste your time with WordPress when you are studying to code.

  • Thanks for watching!

    Thank you Dorian

  • I didnt think to touch wordpress.

  • I see where you are coming from. I think WordPress is a good place to begin for a lot of developers. I got a few freelance gigs in it which helped me to become an React/Vue developer. I still do some freelance work on the side in wordpress but it is more custom css/html/javascript than it is simply installing premade WordPress themes.

But I agree it shouldn't be a main focus and could hidder the growth of a developer.

  • Hi Dorian, I am not sure your full meaning behind a "WordPress Developer" and I know this will vary based on who you talk to haha. In the video it sounds like your are referring to someone that is using existing themes to create a website and maybe making some modifications. While that is great for Beginners, I find that WordPress is a great tool as a CMS. I would be interested to hear what other CMS's you prefer over WordPress. I do agree that it shouldn't be your final destination unless that is all you want to do. 😉 Thanks for the video, I always like to hear others thoughts on these things. Going to check out some of your other videos now.

  • I use WordPress a lot because most client wants the world in a day, it all comes down to the project to be honest its really just another tool just focus on your stack whatever that and all should be good

  • Do JS developers use wordpress to take some of the edge off when it comes to deadlines?

  • Shane Elmer says:

What about, is wordpress still scalable and as powerful as your standalone php frameworks?
I think it is more important to really understand if wordpress is even able to hold 1000s of users for the same vps costs vs the costs for hosting core php frameworks with the same user load?

  • You are absolutely right. If you focus on the fundamentals on HTML, CSS, JS and maybe Angular, jquery and a little PHP you already know WordPress.
It's just a matter of structure and you can pretty much learn that in a day or two.

  • Brian Hoard says:

I completely agree with your points! I was building static websites until about 2011 where the company I worked at was using WP for their intranet sites. I learned it, and it was fine. But I was liking it because WP themes took care of responsive design for me. Something I knew nothing about. Fast forward to now, where I maintain about 10 customer WP sites. They're basically static websites as nobody is updating content on them. They're not blogs. But because every site needed custom CSS to get my customers happy, I find that I need to write about 500 to 1000 lines of custom CSS, mostly over-riding the WP theme. It finally dawned on me that as I'm leaning CSS grid now, where responsive websites are much easier to build, I would be doing much less work if I just built the entire site from scratch. So thank you for this video, and encouraging me to do just that.

  • I am a fresher ReactJS developer and I handle WordPress too (only front-end). I feel like I am interested in ReactJS more, work with wordpress you will be very boring and sometimes you maybe ask yourself: 'WTF What I doing?' I just want to focus on my ReactJS job and put wordpress in the trash, but I don't know how to say my leader that I don't want to work with WP

  • BigToasti says:

Hi why is your portfolio website build with wordpress?

  • Dev Duffy says:

I watched this video a couple of months ago and had to watch it again today to help me from falling into the WordPress wormhole! It's back to studying HTML, CSS and JavaScript for me. Thank you so much for making this video Dorian!!!

  • Is App Academy legit slash any good?

  • I don't feel any confidence after building a wordpress website, because you know deep down inside that you didn't do much of a work, it is basically somebody ale's work that you brushed and re-shipped it to another person or for your own use

  • Alex Lytle says:

I think your confusing the term wordpress developer. A true wordpress developer is coding theme and plugins. You can easily make 6 figure salary with wordpress it's a great entry level career that you can learn html.css php and javascript

  • nmr20067 says:

I’m an SEO and I can tell you that all 90% of SEOs use WordPress. Been using WP for 10 years.. I’ve been learning HTML and CSS and JS now to not be so one Dimensional!

  • This is what I wanted to hear, and I believe you 👍

  • Dorian, thank you for sharing🤗 I want to learn how to create and customize simple selling landing pages on WordPress. Could you advice what basic knowledge I need to get? Css and html, would it be enough? Or it still needed for me to get known with python or java?

  • Trevor says:

If it was never for WordPress I would of never had such an acquirable opportunity to get into this field in the first place. Thanks to WordPress you can actually get a job in the first place fairly quickly and easily. Too much snobbery in this community 🙂

  • I have graduated from a web development bootcamp, and I mostly study/use ReactJs, Node Express, and MySQL, but I am now taking a small course on wordpress. The issue I find with other languages is they are not friendly to new developers, every place I have applied to (even with nice live websites) tend to only be interested in my experience not what I am capable of doing. WordPress seems to have many more job openings, and much more friendly standards in terms of getting a job with unrealistic standards.
On average the pay is lower, but lower pay is better than no pay.

  • All I can say is, thank you for this bro.

  • You could use WordPress but still know how to code so you can charge your clients more for building a website from scratch if they don't want to use a WordPress template.

  • Alonzo P says:

Thanks Dorian !! I was thinking about learning this thank god I found this.

  • Ousman Faal says:

WordPress is the deal. It makes me a lot of money.

  • Gothic Wave says:

Yeah, I'm gonna go with Stefan Mischook's advice over yours

  • I have a question, this video is made for people looking for jobs as web developers, but my goal is just to build and manage my own website to start a bussiness. So would using WordPress be a bad idea in this case?

Basically I would like to have a News Blog, User Forum, User Accounts where they can track their info, Access to Paypal and a User Data base to keep track of everything, progress, payment, etc. I would not mind learning how to code, I just don't have the time to learn all the neccesary things I would need like Databases, UBB, PHP, SQL, Javascript, HTML and whatever else.

    Thanks

  • Hi… I am 31 years old and certificate financial accountant. But the matter of fact is, I don't like my profession. Can someone please guide me, what if I want to learn Software development? Can I learn that now? If yes, How much time will it take and frome where to start off??
Please if someone can answer me

  • As a starter coming in business WordPress is always a good option. You can understand the flow and function of the websites. Then you can move to some code.

  • Hi, can I ask if you are talking about building websites with prebuilt themes or building custom themes from scratch with code? Is the latter still a waste of time? Cheers

  • Lol Im apt in being a Full Stack WEb Developer using Laravel and JS Framework but why Im studying WordPress Lol
